In an endeavor to safeguard maritime security, an indispensable discourse was convened between the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Royal Oman Police Coast Guard (ROPCG) in the heart of New Delhi on Tuesday, marking a pivotal effort to combat transnational illicit activities at sea while fostering regional cooperation. This event transpired as both parties convened for the 5th Annual High-Level Conclave, spearheaded by the esteemed Director General Rakesh Pal of the ICG. The distinguished ROPCG delegation was graciously headed by the Assistant Officer Commanding Colonel Abdul Aziz Mohammed Ali Al Jabri.
The crux of the deliberation centered on fortifying bilateral engagements through an ambitious capacity-building initiative, reciprocal ship sojourns, the operationalization of the Sea Rider initiative, forging professional ties between pollution notification centers, and other collaborative accords. There was a resounding pledge from both factions to heighten collaboration in confronting maritime quandaries, thereby fortifying the maritime safety and security paradigm within the region.
On April 25, a rendezvous is charted between a delegation from the ROPCG and representatives from the esteemed Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers in the bustling heart of New Delhi. This initiative aims to familiarize the ROPCG with India’s shipbuilding prowess under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) campaign. Noteworthy is the robust participation of the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy of Oman in a myriad of international collaborative spheres encompassing operations, training, and the exchange of Subject Matter Experts across a spectrum of domains.
Making a notable debut in Oman on July 30 was the INS Visakhapatnam, a Guided Missile Destroyer, meticulously designed and meticulously crafted on Indian soil. Its presence marked the commencement of the MPX, which set sail on August 3, 2023.
