In anticipation of the upcoming agrarian protest towards the national capital on February 13, Tuesday, the Delhi Police, on Sunday, invoked Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in North-East Delhi and along the fringes with adjacent Uttar Pradesh. This measure aims to preclude any undesirable incidents and uphold the rule of law. Concurrently, the metropolitan police declared the application of Section 144 in Shahadara and Gandhi Nagar precincts of the Capital, thereby restricting sizable assemblies until March 11.
The boundaries encompassing Punjab-Haryana in Ambala, Jind, and Fatehabad districts have been cordoned off in preparation for the scheduled ‘Delhi Chalo’ procession. This strategic move precedes the ‘Delhi Chalo’ demonstration orchestrated by an approximate coalition of 200 farmers’ unions, advocating for an array of requisites. These include the enactment of a distinct legislation to guarantee a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for agricultural yields and the rescindment of legal actions instigated against them during previous protests.
As per an edict disseminated by the Delhi Police on Sunday, the ingress of tractors, trolleys, buses, trucks, commercial vehicles, personal conveyances, etc., ferrying protestors from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi, has been proscribed. The directive further stipulates that no participant should be in possession of arms, encompassing firearms, swords, trishuls, spears, lathis, rods, etc.
