A tumultuous throng besieged a constabulary precinct and ignited numerous vehicles in Channagiri within Karnataka’s Davanagere expanse, decrying an alleged fatality during incarceration, during the early hours of Saturday.
Adil (30), denizen of Tipu Nagar in Channagiri, was apprehended on May 24 for purported involvement in gaming pursuits. Authorities reported his health precipitated and he was transported to the infirmary, where his demise was pronounced. Subsequent to the dissemination of Adil’s passing, his kinsfolk stormed the precinct and incited disorder herein. Multitudes amassed, launching projectiles and despoiling the vehicles stationed outside the precinct.
A contingent of eleven constabulary personnel sustained injuries and are presently receiving medical attention, while approximately five constabulary conveyances incurred damage, a ranking functionary disclosed, affirming that tranquility now reigns.
In response to the episode, Davanagere SP Uma Prashanth remarked, “Yesterday, an individual was apprehended. However, shortly after his conveyance to the precinct, he collapsed. Subsequently, he was transported to the medical facility but was pronounced deceased. The individual’s sojourn in the precinct was fleeting, yet his kinsfolk are attributing his demise to custodial circumstances. An inquiry has been instituted, and the cadaver relocated to Davangere hospital.”
As per the SP, considering the gravity of the allegation, a coronial examination will be executed in the presence of a judicial officer. “Numerous conveyances incurred damage, and eleven constabulary personnel sustained injuries during the protest. Three incidents pertaining to vehicular impairment and one grievance filed by the deceased’s progenitor have been documented. Currently, tranquility prevails,” he appended.
