In Chennai, a 17-year-old youth met his demise in a detonation while engrossed in an experiment involving chemical compounds within the confines of his residence, as indicated by law enforcement officials on Friday.
The deceased, a scholar in the twelfth grade attending a private institution situated in the locality of Kolathur, was engrossed in his chemical inquiry, motivated by his academic fascination with the subject of Chemistry. As per reports from the authorities, the youth displayed negligence in handling the chemicals during his experiment, without the supervision of a proficient individual, leading to an inadvertent detonation. Subsequently, the structure of the residence, including the asbestos sheets and walls, collapsed upon him, as relayed by law enforcement.
Suffering from severe burns, the youth succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Law enforcement has commenced their inquiries, with forensic specialists scrutinizing the chemical compounds utilized in the experiment. The cadaver has been dispatched for post-mortem examination, according to the police.
Under section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code, law enforcement has filed a case of unnatural death and continues to conduct further investigations.
A high-ranking official from the local police precinct stated that a forensic unit has been dispatched to the scene, with the chemical compounds undergoing scrutiny. There exists suspicion that the chemical compounds inadvertently ignited during the course of the youth’s experiment, the official added.
