Amidst the tumult in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, the preeminent entity safeguarding child rights, NCPCR, has taken notice of an account detailing the reprehensible act of callously discarding a child by malefactors. Swiftly, a directive has been issued to the district administration, urging a expeditious probe into this distressing incident.

In an official missive addressed to the district magistrate of North 24-Parganas, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) underscored its awareness of a disconcerting episode involving a cohort of wrongdoers, accompanied by law enforcement officials, perpetrating an assault on a female resident on February 10.

The narrative delineates that the malefactors forcibly invaded her abode, subjecting her to physical aggression. Astonishingly, they not only seized her infant daughter but heartlessly cast her aside, as stated by the commission. Recognizing the severity and delicacy of the situation, the commission has taken cognizance and implored a swift inquiry into the matter.

The commission advocates for the proper rehabilitation and resettlement of the affected family, punitive measures against the alleged wrongdoers, and a comprehensive report on the actions taken in response. Sandeshkhali remains fraught with tension, as a considerable number of women in the vicinity level accusations against Trinamool Congress stalwart Shajahan Sheikh and his adherents, alleging “land-grab and coercive sexual assaults.”

Since January 5, Sheikh has been in hiding following a violent confrontation with Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers during a raid on his residence in connection to an alleged ration scam.
