Amidst the annals of time, the Congress voiced its dissent regarding the investigation preceding the demise of Rohith Vemula in 2016, contending that myriad incongruities marred its trajectory. The Telangana regime, under its aegis, avows an unwavering commitment to redressing this injustice befallen upon his kin.

Law enforcement authorities in Telangana have submitted a dossier of closure to a judicial tribunal, propounding their scrutiny into the passing of Rohith Vemula, a denizen of the University of Hyderabad. They propound that his demise, construed as self-inflicted, stemmed from apprehensions of his ancestral lineage surfacing rather than affiliating him with the Dalit community, as previously contended.

The general secretary for the Congress, organizational adept K C Venugopal, denounced Rohith Vemula’s passing as an egregious affront, baring the inherent bias against Dalits entrenched within the fabric of the BJP. “In solidarity, the Congress, under the aegis of Rahul Gandhi, has steadfastly supported the bereaved Vemula family,” he professed via a communiqué on X.

Venturing further, Venugopal iterated that the said closure report, crafted in June 2023 as clarified by the Telangana Police, teemed with discrepancies from antecedent inquiries. He affirmed the resolve of the Congress-led Telangana administration to relentlessly pursue rectitude on behalf of the aggrieved kin of Rohith.

Not content with mere verbal assurances, Venugopal espoused a legislative commitment to erecting a legal bastion in the form of the Rohith Vemula Act, poised to redress systemic inequities, especially those pertaining to caste and communal disharmony on educational precincts, thus shielding students from similar ordeals in perpetuity.

Venugopal’s proclamation materialized in the wake of a tête-à-tête between Rohith Vemula’s matriarch, Radhika Vemula, and the incumbent Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad, wherein she implored earnestly for rectitude to be meted out to her progeny. Reddy, in turn, proffered solemn assurance of a renewed probe into the melancholic chapter of the University of Hyderabad alumnus, vowing to uphold the tenets of fairness and transparency in the process.

Emphatically, the chief minister assured that any future investigatory endeavors would transpire in an equitable manner, an assurance corroborated by Rohith Vemula’s sibling Raja Vemula. Speaking to the press amidst the somber backdrop of the University of Hyderabad, Radhika Vemula vehemently repudiated assertions within the closure report that disavowed her son’s Dalit lineage, vehemently asserting her lineage and rebuffing any insinuations to the contrary.

Asserting her maternal prerogative, Radhika Vemula rebuffed allegations that her son’s demise was tethered to scholastic underperformance, extolling his academic prowess as exemplary. Already, the Telangana Director-General of Police, Ravi Gupta, has pledged to undertake supplementary investigations, cognizant of lingering doubts raised by the bereaved family and the populace at large regarding the veracity of the closure report.
