Amidst the ongoing national polls, the Congress launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of attempting to divide the electorate and distorting the statements of former PM Manmohan Singh.
Expressing deep concern, the Congress is gearing up to petition the Election Commission of India regarding the PM’s recent comments at a rally in Rajasthan. The party also implored the election watchdog to take proactive notice of Modi’s statements.
“This conduct is reprehensible and entirely unbecoming of a Prime Minister representing 140 crore citizens of our nation. If this is the extent to which the PM is descending, it will cast a dark shadow on the esteemed constitutional position he holds.
“I am confident that our party will formally approach the Election Commission regarding this matter, yet the EC should also independently take note of such hateful rhetoric from the PM. Otherwise, it will severely undermine the public’s trust in democracy and our constitutional bodies,” Tankha emphasized.
The seasoned Congress leader was specifically addressing the PM’s remarks from a rally in Banswara, Rajasthan, on Sunday. Modi had alleged that the longstanding party aimed to redistribute the nation’s wealth to those with larger families and alleged infiltrators if they were to come to power. Furthermore, the PM claimed that former PM Manmohan Singh had stated that Muslims should have primary access to the country’s resources.
“The PM is fabricating falsehoods. It seems to be a recurring habit for him. No previous PM has peddled such untruths. I challenge the PM to provide any evidence from the Congress manifesto that touches upon Hindu-Muslim distinctions. Our social welfare assurances are directed at all disenfranchised segments of our society.
“Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh never once brought up religion when discussing the allocation of our national resources,” Khera added firmly.
The Rajya Sabha representative suggested that the PM’s divisive rhetoric is indicative of the BJP’s unease following the phase 1 elections on April 19.
“It’s apparent they are sensing defeat from the phase 1 polling results. Therefore, the PM is turning to communal divisions to compensate for forthcoming phases. Just a short while ago, he was fixated on non-vegetarian food, and now it’s about Muslims. The PM is silent on his government’s accomplishments over the past decade,” Tankha noted.
“The PM’s desperation is palpable as the public focuses on our manifesto, which pledges welfare for all, in contrast to the BJP. These efforts will no longer bear fruit. It appears these words are not of a Prime Minister but of a jittery BJP leader. It seems the BJP is poised to fall below 100 seats,” AICC representative for Tamil Nadu, Ajoy Kumar, asserted in an interview.
“Hence, we are highlighting the imperative to safeguard the constitution and its institutions. There must be an equitable platform for all political entities and leaders,” he concluded.
