In the inquiry’s outset regarding the assassination of Bangladesh’s legislator Anwarul Azim Anar, indications disclosed that a comrade had disbursed approximately Rs 5 crore to execute the deed, relayed a senior law enforcement official on Thursday. Anar, who vanished in Kolkata on May 13, surfaced as a victim of homicide, with three individuals now in custody, according to Bangladesh’s Home Minister, Asaduzzaman Khan, in remarks made on Wednesday.
West Bengal’s law enforcement, through the State CID, has taken up the mantle of investigating the case. The perpetration of the homicide was methodically orchestrated. An exorbitant sum, tallying to about Rs 5 crore, was rendered by an erstwhile associate of the parliamentarian to orchestrate his demise, conveyed the official to PTI. The confidant of the Awami League MP is a citizen of the United States and possesses a domicile in Kolkata, he added.
Akhilesh Chaturvedi, holding the position of Inspector General in CID, mentioned on Wednesday that there existed credible intel suggesting Anar’s potential demise, yet the body remains unaccounted for. When queried regarding the discovery of bloodstains within the confines of a deluxe apartment situated in New Town on Kolkata’s periphery, where the whereabouts of the MP were last discerned on May 13, Chaturvedi responded, “Our forensic corps is scrutinizing the premises suspected of being the site of the crime. It’s premature to deliberate on that matter.”
The quest to locate the absent MP, who purportedly landed in Kolkata on May 12 for medical treatment, was initiated six days later following a complaint lodged by Gopal Biswas, a denizen of Baranagar in north Kolkata, and an acquaintance of the Bangladeshi statesman, with the local authorities on May 18.
Anar had taken residence at Biswas’s abode upon arrival. In his grievance, Biswas articulated that Anar vacated his Baranagar dwelling for a scheduled medical consultation on the afternoon of May 13, affirming his return for supper. Biswas contended that the Bangladeshi MP ceased all communication since May 17, thus impelling him to register a missing persons report a day later.
