A tragic event unfolded when the roof of a third-floor house under construction collapsed, claiming the lives of two laborers in Dholpur, Rajasthan. Moreover, over half a dozen laborers suffered severe injuries and were swiftly transported to the district hospital for urgent medical attention.
The incident occurred on Sant Nagar road in Bari town during the early hours of Wednesday and Thursday. Sub Divisional Officer Radheshyam Meena highlighted negligence as the cause, with ongoing investigations by the authorities.
Reportedly, about 20 laborers were engaged in laying the RCC roof when the collapse happened around midnight. Upon hearing a deafening crash, locals promptly alerted the authorities, who promptly rushed to the scene.
Despite concerted efforts to extricate those trapped, it took approximately two hours to free them from the rubble. Tragically, two individuals succumbed to their injuries, while others were wounded and admitted to hospitals. The deceased were identified as 35-year-old Lakhan, son of Ramcharan Lodha, a resident of Musalpur, and 32-year-old Bhola, son of Sohanlal.
Initially, the injured were admitted to Bari Hospital, but as their conditions deteriorated, they were referred to the district hospital after receiving first aid.
The accident has plunged the families of the deceased into mourning, with relatives gathering at the district hospital. Preliminary investigations point to negligence on the part of the contractor, who purportedly failed to furnish adequate safety gear to the workers.
This glaring lack of helmets and safety harnesses underscores the critical necessity of stringent safety protocols at construction sites.
