Delhi Court’s Verdict Stuns BRS Leader

The custody period of BRS leader K Kavitha, implicated in a financial misconduct case associated with an alleged excise scandal, has been prolonged by a Delhi court until July 3. Following a prior directive, Special Judge Kaveri Baweja decided to extend the detainment when Kavitha appeared before the court pursuant to a production warrant issued earlier.

The warrants were issued subsequent to the court’s acknowledgment of a formal accusation against the BRS leader on May 29. Furthermore, the court granted release on bail to three co-defendants – Prince, Damodar, and Arvind Singh – who were included in the chargesheet without undergoing arrest during the Enforcement Directorate’s investigation.

Kavitha finds herself in judicial custody as a result of two cases initiated by the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation concerning the purported irregularities and illicit financial activities surrounding the development and execution of the excise policy of the Delhi government for the fiscal year 2021-22, which was subsequently annulled.

The Enforcement Directorate apprehended Kavitha, aged 46, from her residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, on March 15. Subsequently, she was detained by the Central Bureau of Investigation while incarcerated at Tihar jail.
