Asha Devi, the progenitrix of the victim of the 2012 Delhi gang-rape, has beseeched Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to proffer his backing to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal, who has levied allegations against the confidant of the CM for assailing her. In a visual plea for redressal for the former Chairwoman of the Delhi Commission for Women, Devi averred, ‘Swatiji merits reparation’.
“AAP ascended to dominance in Delhi while harnessing the ire and indignation of denizens in the Nirbhaya episode. If the Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal is bereft of security, what can the ordinary women anticipate?” she appended.
Maliwal expressed gratitude to Devi for her solidarity and articulated that she was deeply stirred by the demonstration of unity: “The mother of Nirbhaya has waged a protracted struggle for judicial redress in the nation. Even during my protest fast to mete out punishment to perpetrators of child molestation, she extended her backing. Today, she has released this video in support of me. I am profoundly moved,” she expounded in a missive on X.
Nevertheless, some statesmen and individuals will impute her to be a BJP agent for lending her support to me, she remarked wryly, deriding AAP luminary Atishi, who intimated that the AAP Rajya Sabha MP had orchestrated a scheme against CM Kejriwal by allying with the BJP.
Maliwal’s accusations against CM Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar have engendered a political upheaval in the metropolis after she alleged that Kumar subjected her to an onslaught at the abode of the CM on May 13. According to her testimony, she was subjected to kicks in her thoracic cavity, abdomen, and pelvic region prior to being “ruthlessly dragged.”
Meanwhile, reports of the Delhi Police abstaining from visiting CM Kejriwal’s domicile on Thursday to interpellate his progenitors in connection with the Maliwal “assault” case surfaced. Formerly, on Wednesday, Kejriwal had declared that the police would interrogate his aged and infirm progenitors the ensuing day. Kejriwal’s confidant Bibhav Kumar was apprehended by the police in this context. Sources have indicated that the police might pay a visit to his residence for interrogation in the forthcoming days but have refrained from doing so on Thursday.
Devi conversed with the press and articulated: “He (Arvind Kejriwal) ought to undertake action in this regard. He holds the mantle of chief minister of Delhi. He brands himself as the fraternal figure and scion of the populace of Delhi. Bearing that in mind, he should vociferate and take stringent measures against the accused,” she averred.
In a post on X in Hindi, Kejriwal however expounded that he was awaiting the police along with my progenitors and spouse. Yesterday the police reached out and solicited time to interrogate my progenitors. “However, they have not furnished any communication regarding their intent to attend or otherwise.” The AAP ascribed the BJP with perpetrating atrocities on Kejriwal’s progenitors through the police.
