An account of clandestine spice manufacturing operations in Karawal Nagar, a precinct of the city, emerged with the apprehension of three individuals by law enforcement authorities.
Reportedly, a significant haul of spurious Indian spices, totaling fifteen metric tonnes, along with raw materials, was confiscated from the suspects. The arrested individuals were identified as Dilip Singh (46), Sarfaraj (32), and Khurseed Malik (42).
According to police sources, intelligence indicated the involvement of certain manufacturers or vendors in northeast Delhi in the production and distribution of counterfeit Indian spices under renowned brand labels.
In response to this information, a dedicated investigative unit was assembled. On May 1, the team acquired further details concerning the illicit operations purportedly conducted within the confines of Karawal Nagar.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Rakesh Pawariya, disclosed that subsequent to thorough reconnaissance, raids were conducted leading to the apprehension of Dilip and Khursheed. Dilip claimed ownership of the illicit manufacturing establishment, while Khursheed confessed to being the supplier of the spurious spices.
Continued interrogation unearthed the existence of another processing facility situated along Kali Khata Road in Karawal Nagar. A subsequent raid resulted in the apprehension of Sarfaraz, who was purportedly involved in the production of counterfeit spices.
Law enforcement authorities have indicated that a comprehensive investigation will commence following the formal registration of a First Information Report (FIR).
