In New Delhi, tragedy struck as a 46-year-old office superintendent lost his life in the wake of a formidable conflagration that engulfed the Income Tax CR Building on Tuesday, as reported by authorities. Upon receiving a PCR distress call in the afternoon, the police swiftly responded to the inferno blazing on the third storey of the CR Building situated in the ITO vicinity.
“The Fire Department and law enforcement promptly mobilized to the scene. The blaze was eventually subdued, with a total of seven individuals rescued from peril. Tragically, a 46-year-old gentleman was discovered unconscious and later succumbed to his injuries at a medical facility. He held the position of an office superintendent,” conveyed a senior police official, disclosing the deployment of forensic teams to the location.
Delhi Fire Services recounted the rescue of seven individuals—comprising five gentlemen and two ladies—while one individual sustaining minor injuries was promptly transported to a nearby medical center. The outbreak of flames occurred within the premises opposite the former Police Headquarters, which continues to house certain units of the force.
“A distress call was received at 3:07 pm, alerting us to the fire within the Income Tax CR building. Subsequently, we dispatched a fleet of 21 fire tenders. Local law enforcement was duly notified to facilitate further inquiry and maintain order,” articulated DFS officials. Eyewitness footage circulating on social platforms depicted occupants seeking refuge on a window ledge during their escape from the blaze, with firefighters facilitating their descent via ladders.
“At 4 pm, I was apprised that a total of seven individuals—comprising five gentlemen and two ladies—were successfully extricated by DFS from the third storey of the edifice. The endeavor to fully extinguish the flames remains ongoing,” affirmed DFS chief Atul Garg. “Upon the arrival of firefighters, the premises were swiftly evacuated. Protective gas masks were necessitated owing to noxious fumes, yet all occupants were safely rescued. Local law enforcement has been notified to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident’s root cause,” Garg elucidated.
