The calamitous incident claimed the lives of two individuals, propelling the demand for Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to relinquish his position. The fatal encounter occurred on May 19 in the precincts of Kalyani Nagar, Pune, as two IT professionals succumbed beneath the wheels of a Porsche purportedly steered by a 17-year-old, allegedly under the sway of intoxicants.
The incident’s aftermath witnessed a surge of public outcry subsequent to the Youth Justice Board’s decision to grant bail to the adolescent perpetrator, coupled with an unconventional directive to compose an essay on vehicular mishaps. However, the teenager found himself remanded to an observation facility until the advent of June 5. Notably, law enforcement apprehended the father and grandfather of the juvenile, alongside Dr. Ajay Taware, the head of Forensic Medicine at Sassoon General Hospital, and its chief medical overseer, Dr. Shrihari Halnor, on charges of tampering with the blood specimens belonging to the young offender.
In a fervent address to the press, Nana Patole, the incumbent chief of Maharashtra’s Congress faction, castigated Sassoon General Hospital, decrying it as a sanctuary for felons. Amidst the backdrop of a parched landscape wrought by severe drought, Patole underscored a disconcerting surge in instances of intoxicated driving and narcotic abuse. In his fervent plea for the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis, Patole cited instances from Nagpur and Jalgaon where swift judicial reprieve was accorded to perpetrators hailing from influential echelons of society.

Patole lambasted the proliferation of illicit drug syndicates across Pune, singling out the clandestine proliferation of unlicensed watering holes as focal points for vice and debauchery. The subsequent detention of Dr. Ajay Taware in connection to the vehicular catastrophe unearthed a damning missive dated 2023, authored by NCP MLA Sunil Tingre, advocating for Taware’s ascension to the post of medical superintendent. Expanding his indictment to encompass broader sociopolitical spectrums, Patole condemned purported attempts by the BJP to integrate Manusmriti into the educational curriculum, vowing steadfast resistance against any such regressive overtures.
