The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) is currently reviewing a petition from the Karnataka administration requesting the annulment of the diplomatic credential belonging to suspended Janata Dal (Secular) Member of Parliament Prajwal Revanna, who stands accused of engaging in inappropriate behavior towards multiple women. Authoritative insiders have disclosed that the MoFA has been furnished with correspondence from the Karnataka authorities urging the withdrawal of Revanna’s diplomatic accreditation.
Revanna, scion of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, finds himself embroiled in a legal quandary regarding allegations of sexual misconduct, and it is reported that the representative from Hassan departed from Indian soil toward the end of the preceding month, a mere day after the conclusion of polling in his electoral constituency. “The MoFA has been apprised of a communication from the Karnataka government requesting the revocation of the diplomatic credentials pertaining to MP Prajwal Revanna. This matter is presently under review,” divulged a source privy to the developments.
On Wednesday, Karnataka’s Minister for Home Affairs, G Parameshwara, conveyed that the central administration has yet to furnish a response to the entreaty for the nullification of Revanna’s diplomatic credentials, premised on an outstanding arrest warrant against the JD(S) luminary. A Special Tribunal for Elected Representatives issued a warrant for arrest against Prajwal subsequent to a petition filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
In a previous statement earlier this month, spokesperson for the MoFA, Randhir Jaiswal, underscored that Revanna undertook a journey to Germany utilizing a diplomatic passport without seeking requisite political endorsement for his excursion. “No official approval was solicited from, nor issued by, the MoFA with regard to the travel undertaken by the aforementioned MP to Germany,” asseverated Jaiswal.
