The destiny of 950 aspirants in 39 Lok Sabha Constituencies of Tamil Nadu was sealed on April 19, with 69.46 percent of electors turning up to exercise their suffrage. The Electoral Commission had previously declared a 72.09 percent voter turnout but revised the number post-midnight.
The State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Satyabrata Sahoo had articulated on Friday that the state witnessed a turnout of 72.09 percent. However, authorities had then intimated that there might be fluctuations in the turnout statistics. When probed about the disparity in the figures, officials on Saturday mentioned that the former “statistics were predicated on sample data from select polling stations,” and the precise figures were furnished post-midnight.
Out of the 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu, Dharmapuri emerged atop with an 81.48 percent voter turnout, trailed by 79.25 percent in Kalakurichi and 78.61 percent in Karur. Central Chennai recorded the most subdued voter turnout of 53.91 percent, as per the latest EC statistics.
The Electoral Commission elucidated that the polling for the initial phase of the seven-phase elections remained predominantly serene. As the globe’s grandest poll operation commenced at 7 am on Friday, electors confronted the sweltering temperatures to exercise their franchise. Voting culminated at 6 PM.
