In a missive addressed to the heads of various factions within the INDIA opposition cohort, Mallikarjun Kharge, the chief of the Congress party, brought to attention purported irregularities within the voting statistics recently disseminated by the Election Commission (EC).
Kharge’s epistle implored the leaders of the INDIA coalition to vocalize their concerns over said irregularities, stressing that their primary aim was to uphold the ethos of a robust democracy and the sanctity of the Constitution.
“We must endeavor to safeguard the autonomy of the Election Commission of India and subject it to scrutiny,” he penned. “As the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), it is incumbent upon us to collectively ensure the preservation of democracy and the autonomy of the ECI’s operations. The aforementioned circumstances compel us to ponder—could this be construed as an endeavor to manipulate the ultimate outcomes?” he pondered.
“It is common knowledge how Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi and the BJP are visibly perturbed and disenchanted by the voting trends and their diminishing electoral prospects in the initial two phases. The entire nation is cognizant that an authoritarian regime, inebriated with authority, may resort to any means to retain power,” Kharge articulated.
“I implore all of you to resolutely, collectively, and unambiguously voice our opposition to such irregularities, as our sole objective is to safeguard the ethos of a dynamic democracy and the Constitution,” he reiterated. Numerous opposition factions have voiced concerns regarding the delay in the EC’s release of polling data.
Sharing his missive on X, Kharge remarked, “My communication to the leaders of INDIA factions, regarding the discrepancies in the voting data disseminated by the Election Commission of India and the non-disclosure of registered voters.”
Voting is currently underway in 93 constituencies spanning across 11 states and Union territories on Tuesday in the third phase of parliamentary elections.
