Renowned erstwhile Indian cricket luminary and present Aam Admi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament, Harbhajan Singh, exercised his franchise on Saturday during the conclusive phase of the Lok Sabha Election 2024. Additionally, he implored the populace of Jalandhar to converge in substantial numbers and partake in the electoral process to choose their governance.
Post his ballot, the 43-year-old articulated that the prevalence of VIP culture ought to be eradicated, advocating for egalitarian access to voting rights devoid of discrimination.
“I anticipate a robust turnout in Jalandhar, with a fervent desire for maximal electoral engagement. It is our civic obligation to foster the governance that befits our aspirations, a governance committed to public welfare. I categorically disavow any notion of VIP status; the ostentation of VIP culture must be relegated to obsolescence. If one can patiently queue for a communal meal, one can surely endure the wait here as well,” Harbhajan relayed to ANI following his vote.
Harbhajan, a luminary in the annals of Indian cricket, bade adieu to the sport in December 2021. He was renowned for his mastery of the ‘Doosra’, a delivery that confounded even the most adept batsmen.
Having donned the Indian jersey in 103 Test matches, Harbhajan claimed 417 wickets. His prowess extended to 236 One Day Internationals (ODIs), wherein he scalped 269 batsmen, and 19 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), accounting for 18 dismissals. His final appearance in limited-overs cricket for the national team occurred in 2016 during an Asia Cup encounter against the UAE.
Furthermore, Harbhajan boasts a commendable record in the Indian Premier League (IPL), featuring in 163 matches and capturing 150 wickets therein.
