In the realm of Rajasthan’s initiatives to promote solar energy, a resident of Jaipur found himself facing an astonishing Rs 9.53 crore electricity bill despite having installed solar panels over the past year.

Rajiv Tiwari, a resident of Ajmer, was perplexed by the staggering monthly bill of Rs 9.53 crore for a 10-kilowatt solar panel installed last year. Tiwari, who shares the house with four others, mentioned that they only use the air conditioner for a few hours each day.

Upon scrutinizing previous months’ bills, Tiwari revealed a bill of Rs 3,418 for November 2023, Rs 3,650 for December 2023, Rs 818 for January 2024, Rs 6,967 for February of the same year, and a mere Rs 319 for March.

Despite their consumption not exceeding 1,000 units after installing the solar panels, the April bill showed a consumption of 825 units with an exorbitant amount of Rs 9.53 crore.

Upon inquiry by JVVNL’s (Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited) executive engineer (XEN), it was attributed to a human error. The engineer assured that the bill would be rectified and reissued.
