Upon the dawning of Friday, Atishi Marlena, a luminary of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), found herself entangled in a web of official proceedings as she received a formal communication from the esteemed Election Commission. The communication stemmed from grave accusations she had made, alleging coercion by a confidant to align herself with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or brace for the imminent grasp of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

This notice, bearing the seal of the electoral authority, mandated a response from Atishi by the stroke of noon on Monday, the 8th of April.

Triggered by a formal grievance lodged by the BJP on the 4th of April, the missive dispatched to Atishi by the Election Commission articulated, “In your capacity as a minister within the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi and a luminary of a national political faction, your utterances hold significant sway over the electorate. Consequently, any pronouncements issued by public figures such as yourself have the potential to shape the tenor of electoral debates.”

The missive continued, “However, it is imperative that such declarations be substantiated by factual underpinnings. In the event of contestation regarding the veracity of your assertions, it behooves you to furnish corroborating evidence. The Commission is presently seized with the matter, scrutinizing it in light of the prescriptions delineated within the Model Code of Conduct and pertinent electoral statutes.”

Of note is Atishi’s proclamation on the 2nd of April, wherein she prophesied the imminent arrest of four senior AAP luminaries, herself included. She alleged that emissaries of the saffron party, acting through an intermediary intimately associated with her, extended an invitation to join their ranks, failing which, she purported, would lead to her imminent apprehension by the ED within a lunar cycle.
