Tragedy struck during the fervent celebrations of Ganga Dussehra in Arrah, Bihar, as four souls met a watery grave in the sacred waters of the Ganga. The heart-wrenching incident unfolded near the serene banks of Shivpur Ganga Ghat, nestled at the crossroads of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Hailing from the quaint Kharoni village in the Bihiya police station jurisdiction, the victims found their final resting place amidst the flow of the holy river.

Upon receiving the distressing news, a swift response ensued, with a collaborative effort of law enforcement and administrative authorities, bolstered by the SDRF team, rushing to the scene of sorrow.

Reports unveil a scene of festivity marred by tragedy, as devotees flocked to the revered Shivpur Ganga Ghat, nestled within the Bahoranpur police station’s purview. Amidst the throngs of faithfuls, chaos erupted when the currents of the Ganga claimed four unsuspecting lives, leaving anguish to grip the families of the departed. Notably, all those lost to the river hailed from Kharoni village, further deepening the communal sorrow.

The arduous search for the fallen, identified as Deepu Yadav, Sonu Yadav, Nishu Sharma, and Ramji Gond, unfolded amidst the sweltering heat, challenging the rescuers. Undeterred, the SDRF, aided by local divers, spearheaded the relentless quest for closure amidst the somber crowd.

“In response to the distress call, Jagdishpur’s SDM and DSP swiftly mobilized, establishing a camp at the site of sorrow, situated within the precincts of Lalganj in Uttar Pradesh. The UP administration stands alerted, coordinating efforts to locate the missing souls,” affirmed Rajkumar, Bhojpur DM.

Elsewhere, tragedy echoed anew at the Ganga Ghat of Dingur Patti village in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, claiming the lives of two young maidens amidst the Ganga Dussehra festivities. Anchal (15) and Nancy (13), natives of Dingur Patti, succumbed to the river’s embrace, while two fortunate souls were rescued from its clutches, courtesy of vigilant locals. Prompt response from Chilh police, aided by community divers and seafarers, facilitated the retrieval of their lifeless forms from the Ganga’s depths.

In the wake of the calamity, grief engulfed Dingurpatti village, as inconsolable wails pierced the air, echoing the loss endured. Village elder Mahavir attested to the somber atmosphere pervading the hamlet, while police authorities, led by station in-charge Rita Yadav, initiated inquiries into the tragic demise of the two young souls, ushering in a quest for answers amidst the pall of mourning.
