Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Conglomerate, exercised his franchise by casting his ballot at a polling venue in the Mahmadpura Primary School, situated in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, during the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
In a discourse with journalists post-casting his vote, Adani underscored the onward progression of India and encouraged citizens to engage in the democratic procedure. “India is advancing progressively and will persist in further advancement,” he asserted.
Adani accentuated the momentousness of Election Day, portraying it as a “grand jubilee of democracy.” He articulated, “Today marks this grand jubilee of democracy, and I implore all citizens to venture out and exercise their franchise.”
Concurrently, voting is in progress for 93 Lok Sabha constituencies across 12 states and union territories in the third phase of the general election. As of 11 am, voter turnout in diverse states was recorded as follows: Assam 27.34 percent, Bihar 24.41 percent, Chhattisgarh 29.90 percent, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu 24.69 percent, Goa 30.94 percent, Gujarat 24.35 percent, Karnataka 24.48 percent, Madhya Pradesh 30.21 percent, Maharashtra 18.18 percent, Uttar Pradesh 26.12 percent, and West Bengal 32.82 percent.
The states and union territories partaking in this phase encompass Assam (4 constituencies), Bihar (5), Chhattisgarh (7), Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (2), Goa (2), Gujarat (25), Karnataka (14), Maharashtra (11), Madhya Pradesh (8), Uttar Pradesh (10), and West Bengal (4).
With a surplus of 1300 contenders, including approximately 120 women, vying in this phase, a total of 17.24 crore voters are entitled to cast their ballots at 1.85 lakh polling stations. Additionally, 75 envoys from 23 nations are monitoring the electoral process.
Voting will not ensue for Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday as the Election Commission of India (ECI) has postponed polling to the sixth phase scheduled for May 25. Originally, voting was slated for 94 Lok Sabha constituencies in the third phase.
Nevertheless, owing to unanticipated circumstances, elections in the Betul Lok Sabha constituency of Madhya Pradesh have been rescheduled from the second to the third phase subsequent to the demise of the BSP nominee. In the 2019 general election, the BJP clinched victory in 72 of the 93 constituencies contested in this phase. The Lok Sabha elections are unfolding across seven phases from April 19 to June 1, with counting slated for June 4.
