In the aftermath of turmoil in Balodabazar, Chhattisgarh, authorities have swiftly taken action, lodging a total of eight complaints and detaining at least 121 individuals purportedly implicated in acts of destruction and incendiarism. Moreover, a judicial inquiry commission, led by retired judge CB Bajpai, has been established by the government to probe the Balodabazar unrest and furnish its findings to the authorities within a span of three months.
Law enforcement disclosed that a minimum of 39 troublemakers were apprehended on Thursday, subsequent to the detention of 82 individuals on June 11. Post the upheaval, Balodabazar Collector KL Chauhan and SSP Sadanand Kumar faced suspension due to alleged dereliction of their duties.
The pandemonium ensued following the profanation of a religious emblem within Baghin Cave of Manakoni Basti near Girodpuri Dham on May 15. Despite the initial arrest of three suspects, tensions lingered within the populace, triggering demands for an official inquiry.
Following this, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma declared a judicial investigation, yet grievances persisted, culminating in a mass demonstration on June 10, wherein protestors clamored for a CBI examination. Despite endeavors to uphold order through magisterial interventions and a robust police presence, the protest spiraled out of control, resulting in the conflagration of more than 200 vehicles and the razing of the Collectorate and the SP office.
The unrest also inflicted injuries upon over 40 police personnel, staff members, and administrative functionaries. In response, the Chhattisgarh administration suspended Balodabazar Collector KL Chauhan and SSP Sadanand Kumar, citing negligence and insubordination in their obligations.
The transfer of the SP and Collector had been pre-announced, with Deepak Soni assuming the mantle of the new collector and Vijay Agarwal as the Superintendent of Police. Authorities have lodged eight complaints at City Police station against the instigators of the upheaval, encompassing charges of vandalism, incendiarism, and the destruction of public property under various sections of the law.
Furthermore, law enforcement asserted that the pursuit of additional suspects is ongoing as the investigation into the turbulent incident proceeds.
