Amidst a severe dearth of water resources in the nation’s capital, the Delhi administration has taken recourse to legal measures by approaching the Supreme Court, urging Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh to augment their supply to alleviate the crisis.
Per information from a reliable source, the AAP-led government has petitioned the apex court, urging the release of water from the aforementioned states.
On Thursday, Atishi, the Minister of Water, articulated the government’s intention to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court due to Haryana’s failure to allocate Delhi’s entitled share of water, exacerbating the critical situation. During a press briefing, she underscored Delhi’s predicament, terming it an “emergency,” and outlined a series of urgent interventions to mitigate the crisis.
“We are poised to file a petition with the Supreme Court on Thursday to address Haryana’s refusal to release Delhi’s designated water quota,” she asserted. Additionally, the minister disclosed plans to establish a centralized control center for water tankers within the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), to be overseen by an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) official.
The water scarcity plaguing Delhi coincides with a surge in temperatures, with the mercury inching towards the 50-degree Celsius mark in the national capital. Concurrently, the minimum temperature hovers around 30 degrees Celsius, marking a deviation of 2.8 degrees from the norm.
