A 23-year-old postgraduate engineering student in the final throes of their studies at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, met an untimely demise within the confines of their hostel room, as per the pronouncement of the local authorities on Friday. The absence of any suicide note at the scene has spurred ongoing investigations.
The revelation transpired last night when the kith and kin of the late student, Sanjay Narekar, beseeched the hostel sentinel to investigate, given the unresponsiveness to their calls. Upon the guard’s arrival at Sanjay’s abode, they encountered a locked door, prompting the hostel administration to involve the nearby police precinct.
Rohit Meena, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for South West District, elucidated that an alert regarding the incident reached the Police Control Room around midnight. Subsequently, forensic and Station House Officer (SHO) teams were dispatched to the location.
“The door, stubbornly locked from within, necessitated forced entry. Within the confines of the room, Sanjay was discovered lifeless. Both police and forensic teams, upon scrutiny, discerned no suspicious elements within the premises. Furthermore, the absence of a suicide missive perplexes the investigative pursuit,” Meena elucidated.
Hailing from Nashik, Maharashtra, Sanjay resided within IIT Delhi’s Dronagiri hostel. Pending the arrival of his progenitors, the police have temporarily housed his mortal remains in the hospital mortuary, awaiting their presence for the subsequent postmortem proceedings.
