New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has prognosticated that in the forthcoming week, there will be scattered light to moderate rainfall and snowfall anticipated over the Western Himalayan Region.

As per the latest morning bulletin from IMD, isolated occurrences of thunderstorms and lightning are also expected over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh from April 3rd to 5th, over Uttarakhand on April 3rd and 5th, and over West Uttar Pradesh on April 4th and 5th.

Between April 5th and 8th, Chattisgarh, Telangana, Marathawada, Vidarbha, Konkan and Goa, along with a few other regions, are projected to observe isolated rainfall.

Concurrently, Arunachal Pradesh in the northeast is poised to witness extensive rainfall from April 2nd to 5th and relatively widespread rainfall from April 6th to 8th, while Assam and Mizoram will also encounter fairly widespread rainfall from April 4th to 7th.

Similarly, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and the coastal-North-southern areas of Karnataka are also expected to experience isolated rainfall from April 5th to 8th.

IMD has additionally reported the presence of a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and another over northeast Bihar at lower tropospheric levels. It has noted a substantial inflow of moisture from the Bay of Bengal to the northeastern states at lower tropospheric levels.

In light of this influence, scattered light to moderate rainfall is highly probable over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim in the ensuing week, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning until the following day. The meteorological department has further predicted the onset of heat-wave conditions over the next seven days in Madhya Pradesh, certain parts of Karnataka, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, and Gangetic West Bengal.

It is imperative to underscore that IMD cautioned on Monday about the likelihood of extreme weather occurrences across the nation this year, commencing towards the end of April and coinciding with the general elections, underscoring the necessity for comprehensive preparedness among all stakeholders.

Prior to the Lok Sabha elections of 2024, the weather authority had issued advisories regarding heatwaves, foreseeing a notably warmer summer.
