The septuagenarian Congress luminary accrues a princely royalty of Rs 1.69 lakh courtesy of the Oxford University Press, coupled with a vested interest in her progenitor’s ancestral holdings in Italy, as divulged in her electoral affidavit.
The aforementioned affidavit delineates her real estate holdings at a value of Rs 6,15,65,407 and her liquid assets amounting to Rs 6,38,11,415. Her revenue streams encompass her parliamentary emolument, royalty earnings, bank interest, bond yields, dividends, and mutual fund proceeds.
She retains a cash reserve of Rs 90,000 alongside a bank deposit totaling Rs 5,30,734. Additionally, investments in bonds and shares account for Rs 28,53,000, with a substantial Rs 1,04,40,414 allocated to the PPF and similar avenues. It’s noteworthy that she does not claim ownership of either a two-wheeler or a four-wheeler.
Her landed possessions include three bighas in the village of Deramandi near Delhi, appraised at Rs 5.88 crore, and her share in her paternal estate in Italy appraises to Rs 26,83,594.
The adornments she possesses amount to Rs 1.07 crore, encompassing 1267 grams of gold and 88 kg of silver, among other items. Importantly, she bears no financial liabilities in the form of bank loans.
The former Congress matriarch officially submitted her nomination on the preceding day, flanked by the presence of Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot, PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra, and the Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully.
This impending tenure in the Rajya Sabha marks Sonia Gandhi’s maiden foray into the realm. The vacancy for the seat is imminent as the tenure of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh concludes its six-year cycle in April.
