In the latest development, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on the platform of social media denoted as ‘X,’ declared the continuation of the prohibition imposed on Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu Kashmir for the ensuing five years. This pronouncement echoes the initial ban instituted in 2019, justified by governmental apprehensions regarding the organization’s activities perceived as detrimental to the security, integrity, and sovereignty of the nation.
Amit Shah underscored the alignment of this extended ban with Prime Minister Modi’s unwavering policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and separatism. In his statement, Shah articulated, “In adherence to PM Modi’s resolute policy, the government has prolonged the proscription on Jamaat-e-Islami for a span of five years. The organization persistently engages in activities contrary to the security, integrity, and sovereignty of our nation.”
The designation of Jamaat-e-Islami as an ‘Unlawful Association’ on February 28, 2019, stemmed from alleged involvement in activities posing a threat to national security. Shah reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to taking stringent measures against any entity or individual posing a credible threat to the nation’s security.
