New Delhi: On June 8, JD(U) spokesperson KC Tyagi made a startling revelation to the media, just a day before Narendra Modi was set to be sworn in as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the NDA. He divulged the reasons behind JD(U)’s departure from the INDIA Bloc.
Tyagi asserted that the opposition INDIA bloc had extended an offer to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, proposing the Prime Minister’s position to entice him to align with their alliance rather than supporting the NDA.
“Nitish Kumar is the progenitor of the INDI alliance. During a period when the Congress party was politically ostracized, leaders from Aam Aadmi Party, Samajwadi Party, BRS, and TMC were reluctant to engage with Congress leaders. Nitish Kumar shattered this impasse by orchestrating a summit in Patna… All regional partners favored appointing Nitish Kumar as the convenor. However, as part of a clandestine scheme, Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee put forth Mallikarjun Kharge’s name for the Prime Ministerial candidacy, despite a consensus that no PM candidate would be named. A senior Congress leader’s challenge to Nitish Kumar’s convenorship was an affront we could not tolerate. Recognizing their ulterior motives, JD(U) severed its connection with the INDI alliance and allied with the NDA,” Tyagi elucidated.
“This incident underscores the political insolvency of the INDIA bloc leaders who, unwilling to designate Nitish Kumar as the alliance’s convenor, resorted to offering him the PM position. I am gratified that JD(U) leadership rebuffed this proposition, and Nitish Kumar endorsed Narendra Modi as the new Prime Minister, thereby quashing all unfounded rumors. Should any leader wish to contest this narrative, we possess irrefutable evidence… Yes, the proposal was extended on June 4, following the election results.”
