Amidst the tranquil nocturnal hours in the precincts of Nowpora, situated in the northern expanse of Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a resurgence of skirmishes between insurgents and security contingents unfurled on the dawn of Friday, April 26.
The resumption of hostilities at the site of conflict transpired early this morn, persisting for a duration of approximately ten minutes, whilst the vicinity remained ensconced within an encompassing encirclement for the consecutive second day, commencing from Thursday’s afternoon. Informants divulged that two unidentified insurgents met their demise in the midst of the skirmish.
During the preliminary phase of the confrontation, two soldiers incurred injuries, necessitating their expeditious transfer to the Military Intelligence hospital, where reports affirm their stable condition.
Conversely, a reinforcement of security personnel was mobilized to the locale during the late hours of Thursday, fortifying the perimeter to preclude the potential escape of insurgents embroiled in the altercation.
Subsequent to the conflagration in Sopore, a decree was promulgated mandating the cessation of all scholastic establishments, inclusive of educational institutions and colleges within the confines of Sopore township for the current day.
In an official communique issued by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Raina, it was proclaimed that academic endeavors across government and privately-operated educational facilities, encompassing colleges situated within Sopore Tehsil, shall remain in abeyance on the 26th of April, 2024.
The salvo of gunfire serendipitously coincided with the second phase of the ongoing electoral process for the Lok Sabha, wherein the constituency of Jammu Sabha was slated for the ballot. Intelligence inputs prompted the commencement of the firefight subsequent to the detection of militant presence within the locality. Upon the approach of security forces towards the suspected precinct, the concealed insurgents initiated hostilities by opening fire upon the contingent, thereby instigating the engagement, as per reports.
