Inquisitive about the legal intricacies, the Delhi High Court probed into the plea for bail from Bibhav Kumar, an associate of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, entangled in a case concerning the purported attack on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal.
Presided over by Justice Amit Sharma, a temporary bench initiated action on the bail request, summoning the city’s law enforcement to furnish a current perspective. Currently detained, Kumar stands accused of assaulting Maliwal on May 13 within the official premises of Kejriwal. His apprehension took place on May 18.
Previously, the Tis Hazari court, on June 7, rebuffed his plea for release, citing the gravity and severity of the allegations, coupled with concerns about potential witness tampering.
Kumar’s initial bid for bail, rejected on May 27 by another tribunal, contended that Maliwal’s initiation of the FIR lacked premeditation, and her assertions could not be casually disregarded.
A formal complaint was lodged against Kumar on May 16 under various statutes of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), encompassing charges of criminal intimidation, physical aggression against a woman with the intention to disrobe, and attempted culpable homicide. The case is scheduled for further deliberation in early July.
