New Delhi: Expressing his grievances against the BJP, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, shortly after his release from Tihar jail on Wednesday, accused the party of seeking Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation to halt the provision of complimentary water, electricity, and Mohalla clinics in the capital.
Singh, who secured bail in the alleged excise policy scandal from the Supreme Court on Tuesday, also questioned whether the Prime Minister would subject himself to investigation if law enforcement agencies from opposition-governed states like Bengal, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu initiated inquiries.
He asserted that AAP leaders Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain were incarcerated because of their endeavors to offer quality education, healthcare facilities, complimentary bus rides, and financial aid to women in Delhi. Singh emphasized the familial nature of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Immediately upon his release from Tihar jail, the Rajya Sabha MP met with Delhi Chief Minister’s wife Sunita Kejriwal, noting tears in her eyes. Singh pledged to also visit the families of Sisodia and Jain.
Encouraging the populace to remain vigilant against “authoritarian regimes” that bring about sorrow, Singh assured that Kejriwal’s leadership would usher in joy and enhance educational and healthcare services. Addressing a jubilant gathering of party supporters and volunteers at the AAP office, Singh remarked, “If the autocrat governing the nation can heed my words, then understand this: we, the AAP, are a product of a grassroots movement. Your threats will not deter us.”
“I witnessed tears in Arvind Kejriwal’s wife’s eyes for the first time. The two crore residents of Delhi will respond to the BJP for causing such distress,” he declared. “Did you imprison Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain for providing free education, healthcare, senior citizen excursions, and complimentary bus rides for women?” he questioned.
Singh expressed gratitude towards AAP volunteers and leaders for standing up against BJP’s “dictatorship.” He alleged that the BJP sought to apprehend other AAP figures, including ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj, Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, and MLA Durgesh Pathak.
“During my time in confinement… ‘Modi ji kaan khol kar suno (listen carefully),’ every AAP leader and volunteer stands resolute with Chief Minister Kejriwal,” he proclaimed. Singh accused the BJP of being the “Bangaru Janta Party,” alluding to former BJP national president Bangaru Laxman’s conviction in a corruption case.
Singh pointed out that the “most corrupt” individuals were elevated to prominent positions within the BJP. He affirmed that Kejriwal would not relinquish his position as Delhi’s Chief Minister and would continue serving the city’s two crore inhabitants.
“The BJP demands his resignation. However, they are not merely seeking Kejriwal’s departure; they aim to halt the provision of complimentary electricity, water, bus rides for women, and Mohalla Clinics,” Singh argued. He pledged that the AAP would intensify its efforts, and the populace would respond to Kejriwal’s “incarceration” by casting their votes in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Kejriwal remains in judicial custody until April 15 following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case related to his government’s now-defunct excise policy last month.
