A medical team convened at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) premises to conduct a medical assessment of Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Executive of Delhi and AAP National Convenor, on the recent day of the week. Meanwhile, extensive security measures, including barriers, were implemented at the ITO locale subsequent to the ED’s detention of the Delhi CM in connection to the Excise Policy Matter during the preceding evening, escorting him to the ED central site.
As per guidance from the Delhi Police, the ITO Metro station will observe closure from 08:00 am to 06:00 pm today. A delegation from the Enforcement Directorate had visited Kejriwal’s residence the day before to question him pertaining to the alcohol policy affair. Amidst a search operation conducted at his domicile, Kejriwal encountered apprehension amidst dramatic events, having failed to secure interim safeguard from detention in the alcohol policy affair from the Delhi High Court.
Thereafter, he was conveyed to the headquarters of the Enforcement Directorate. In the aftermath of his arrest, AAP affiliates and leaders rallied behind Kejriwal, while counterparts from the INDIA coalition also voiced their solidarity for the AAP figurehead. BJP proponents echoed their endorsement for the ED’s maneuvers against the Delhi Chief Minister, accentuating the necessity for veracity.
Furthermore, the detained Delhi Chief Minister, embroiled in the ED’s probe into the Delhi excise policy matter, petitioned the Supreme Court. However, his plea did not warrant a special nocturnal audience. Gopal Rai, a minister in Delhi’s cabinet and a leading figure in AAP, declared the commencement of a confrontation, affirming that the Aam Aadmi Party will orchestrate a nationwide demonstration against the “unlawful” detention of Arvind Kejriwal.
Rai asserted, “If the BJP assumes they can obliterate the Aam Aadmi Party and intimidate the entire Opposition by detaining Arvind Kejriwal, they are mistaken… A confrontation has ensued. We have resolved to stage a demonstration at the BJP headquarters at 10 am…” The INDIA coalition voiced solidarity with Kejriwal and censured the BJP for employing the ED as a tool against political adversaries. On March 15, the ED also detained a Bharat Rashta Samithi (BRS) luminary and the progeny of former Telangana chief executive K Chandrasekhar Rao, in relation to its inquiry into money laundering accusations associated with the now-defunct excise policy.
Two prominent AAP functionaries, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, find themselves in judicial detention concerning the excise policy case. Sisodia, formerly the Deputy Chief Executive of Delhi, was apprehended by the Central Bureau of Investigation on February 26 after several rounds of interrogation. Subsequently, on October 5, the ED detained Sanjay Singh, a member of the Rajya Sabha.
