A Delhi tribunal on Tuesday mandated the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to furnish its rejoinder concerning Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s motion, which requested authorization to confer with his regular physician via virtual means.
In his submission to Special Magistrate Rakesh Syal, Kejriwal disclosed that his glycemic levels are inconsistent and expressed a desire to seek medical counsel from his usual healthcare provider. The magistrate instructed the ED to present its counter-argument by April 18, as the bench anticipates addressing the issue on that date.
Contesting Kejriwal’s request, legal representatives for the ED contended that the jail provides adequate facilities for treating such medical concerns and that Kejriwal could be evaluated there. “Why does the ED contest my pursuit of medical well-being?” queried Kejriwal’s legal representative.
On Monday, the court had prolonged Kejriwal’s detention in judicial custody until April 23, in relation to the money laundering allegations associated with the supposed excise policy scandal. Kejriwal remains confined in Tihar jail.
The ED has implicated the AAP leader in orchestrating the “comprehensive machination” of the Delhi liquor controversy, including formulating and executing the policy to secure personal gain, reaping benefits from illicit transactions, and channeling portions of the proceeds towards his campaign efforts for the Goa Assembly elections.
