The Aam Aadmi Party declared on Thursday that Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Executive of Delhi and the party’s convener, has responded to the summons from the Enforcement Directorate in connection to the excise policy case. Accusing the BJP of a singular agenda to apprehend Kejriwal, the party alleges the employment of the central agency to impede his participation in the party’s electoral activities for the impending elections.
In an official statement, the party asserted, “The BJP is intent on obstructing Arvind Kejriwal’s involvement in the Lok Sabha elections. Despite the Enforcement Directorate affirming that Kejriwal is not implicated in the liquor policy case, the issuance of summonses and the looming threat of arrest raises questions.”
The AAP further questioned, “When tainted political figures align with the BJP, their legal matters conveniently conclude. We, however, have steered clear of any corrupt practices, and none of our leaders will align with the BJP.”
The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, received his fourth summons in the liquor policy case on January 13. He was required to present himself before the central agency for interrogation on Thursday, January 18. Kejriwal had previously abstained from complying with summons dated November 2, December 21, 2023, and January 3, 2024.
Former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also find themselves incarcerated on corruption charges related to the liquor policy case.
The previous week, the AAP’s I.N.D.I.A partner, Congress, advocated for Kejriwal to follow the precedent set by Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, who willingly submitted to questioning in the National Herald corruption case. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit emphasized the importance of Kejriwal’s appearance before the central agency to articulate his perspective.
