In the city of Thiruvananthapuram, an unsettling incident unfolded in the early hours of Monday, where a two-year-old girl, offspring of a wandering couple from Bihar, was purportedly abducted while peacefully resting in a makeshift tent near Pettah. The occurrence transpired post-midnight, and the absent child was in repose alongside her siblings and parents at an isolated location adjacent to the main thoroughfare beside All Saints College.

Promptly following the event, the distressed parents and the siblings of the missing girl hastened to the nearby police station, urgently seeking assistance. Police sources revealed that, based on information provided by one of the girl’s brothers, an individual on a two-wheeler was observed acting suspiciously in the vicinity during the aforementioned time frame. As the news disseminated through television channels, law enforcement teams swiftly mobilized to the location, initiating thorough searches.

Antony Raju, the MLA representing Thiruvananthapuram, conveyed that an alert had been dispatched to all police stations, with an ADGP-level officer orchestrating the investigation. “The incident occurred around midnight, and the police are conducting an exhaustive inquiry. Police stations in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts, as well as Kanyakumari in the neighboring Tamil Nadu, have been notified,” he informed the media.

This incident unfolded several months subsequent to the abduction and tragic demise of a five-year-old girl, the offspring of migrant parents, in Aluva, Ernakulam district. A migrant worker, convicted in the case, received a death sentence from a special court in November.

According to police accounts, the convict, Ashwaq Alam from Bihar, enticed the girl on July 28 by pledging confections and subsequently subjected her to a heinous act, leading to her demise. The perpetrator callously discarded the lifeless body in a litter-strewn, marshy expanse behind a local market in the vicinity of Aluva.
