Amidst the political landscape, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sternly rebuked the Congress, declaring its forfeiture of ethical standing as a political entity following Mallikarjun Kharge’s commentary on the annulment of Article 370.
The BJP escalated its censure of the Congress subsequent to Kharge’s indirect criticism regarding the abolition of Article 370, which conferred distinct status upon the erstwhile territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, in Rajasthan, questioned the significance of the revocation of Article 370. By expressing indifference towards the integration of Kashmir with the rest of India, it is evident that the Congress disregards the solemn commitment to uphold the nation’s unity and integrity,” accused Sudhansu Trivedi, the BJP’s national spokesperson.
In the wake of Kharge’s stance on Article 370, Trivedi contended that the Congress, having forfeited its national standing and moral authority, can no longer lay claim to the title of a political party.
“The Congress, stripped of its stature as a national party, now merely exists as an amalgamation of regional factions,” he appended.
Home Minister Amit Shah, on the preceding day, condemned the Congress, characterizing Kharge’s statements as “reprehensible.” Shah reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir constitutes an integral part of India, emphasizing that every state and citizen holds equal stake in its sovereignty, just as the people of Jammu and Kashmir possess reciprocal rights over the rest of the nation.
Shah, alongside other BJP luminaries, including President J P Nadda, disseminated a snippet of Kharge’s address on a certain platform, wherein Kharge is heard reproaching the ruling dispensation for its discourse on the abrogation of Article 370.
“Are bhai, yahan ke logon se kya wasta hai (what concern do the people here have)?” queried Kharge in the excerpt. Additionally, the Congress leader erroneously cited Article 371 instead of Article 370.
