In a momentous leap towards nurturing an accessible and all-encompassing justice system, the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) orchestrated the inaugural National Lok Adalat of 2024 across the taluks, districts, and high courts spanning 34 states and Union territories on the preceding Saturday.
As per data gathered from state legal services authorities nationwide by 6 pm on the said Saturday, a grand total of 1,13,60,144 cases found resolution during the premier National Lok Adalat. This encompassed 17,14,056 pending cases and 96,46,088 pre-litigation cases.
A communication disclosed, “The approximate valuation of the overall settlement amount in these instances stood at Rs 8,065.29 crore. The count of resolved cases is anticipated to ascend pending reports from certain State Legal Services Authorities.”
The disclosure expounded that these statistics underscore the efficacy of alternative mechanisms in dispute resolution, attesting to the triumph of the National Lok Adalat in realizing its aims.
“This particular National Lok Adalat denotes a seminal juncture in NALSA’s dedication to ensuring justice for all, transcending impediments, and reshaping the panorama of dispute resolution within the nation,” conveyed the release.
Further, it emphasized that this endeavor, guided by Supreme Court justice Sanjiv Khanna, concurrently the executive chairman of NALSA, aligns with the tenets of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, and the National Legal Services Authority (Lok Adalats) Regulations, 2009.
The lok adalats, endowed with statutory stature, furnish a prompt, economical, and effective alternative for dispute resolution, settling conflicts amicably through conclusive judgments.
Encompassing a wide array of pre-litigation and pending cases, including criminal compoundable offenses, traffic challans, revenue disputes, bank-recovery matters, motor-accident claims, cheque-dishonour litigations, labor contentions, matrimonial disagreements (excluding divorce suits), land acquisition disputes, IPR (intellectual property rights) or consumer affairs, and other civil litigations, the National Lok Adalat embodies NALSA’s pledge to supply exhaustive legal remedies, as articulated in the release.
