Amidst the landscape of Ajmer, Rajasthan, the TADA court delivered a verdict on Thursday, absolving Abdul Karim Tunda, the principal figure in the 1993 serial bomb blasts case. Sources reveal that Irfan, also known as Pappu, and Hamiruddin, two other implicated individuals, have purportedly received life sentences.

According to Tunda’s legal representative, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) struggled to present substantial evidence under the Explosive Substances Act, TADA, IPC, Railway Acts, and Arms Act. Advocating on behalf of Tunda, attorney Shafqat Sultani underscored that the court’s decision fortified their enduring stance on Tunda’s innocence.

Expressing the acquittal, Advocate Shafqat Sultani stated, “Abdul Karim Tunda is absolved; today’s ruling affirms this. Tunda is cleared of all charges under various Sections and Acts. The CBI prosecution failed to furnish concrete evidence pertaining to TADA, IPC, Railway Acts, Arms Act, or Explosive Substances Act. Our consistent assertion that Abdul Karim Tunda is innocent has been validated… Irfan and Hamiduddin stand convicted.”

In 2013, Indian authorities apprehended Tunda at the Banbasa border crossing with Nepal, charging him with multiple bombings. Nevertheless, the Delhi Court dismissed all four charges against him in 2016, asserting that the Delhi Police lacked substantial evidence to substantiate the allegations.

Tunda, hailing from Pilkhua in the Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, has been linked to various instances of bomb detonations. Notably, a trial court in Haryana acquitted him in February 2023 in connection with the 1997 twin Rohtak bomb attack cases, citing insufficient evidence.

Advocate Shafqat Sultani reiterated, “Abdul Karim Tunda is absolved; today’s ruling affirms this. Tunda is cleared of all charges under various Sections and Acts.”

“CBI prosecution failed to furnish concrete evidence pertaining to TADA, IPC, Railway Acts, Arms Act, or Explosive Substances Act. Our consistent assertion that Abdul Karim Tunda is innocent has been validated… Irfan and Hamiduddin stand convicted, and the quantum of the sentence will be pronounced shortly,” he added.
