Four individuals remain unaccounted for after a fishing vessel overturned near Vengurla port on Thursday. A search and rescue mission has been initiated to locate the missing individuals.
Approximately seven people were aboard the vessel, with three successfully rescued. Of the four missing, three hail from Madhya Pradesh and one from Ratnagiri, Maharashtra.
The diminutive craft had embarked from Vengurla port on the evening of May 23, laden with ice for preserving the catch. It was en route to a larger vessel when it encountered a tempestuous storm. Three persons leapt into the sea, managing to reach the shore by clutching onto rocks. Meanwhile, an enormous wave capsized the boat, casting the remaining four into the water.
A search operation commenced immediately, deploying rescue boats to scour the area for the missing individuals. The operation persisted into the late hours, yet no information regarding the four has surfaced.
On Thursday, three State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel perished after their vessel capsized during a search mission in the Pravara River in Ahmednagar. The SDRF team was in pursuit of two youths who had vanished the previous day while swimming.
Earlier, six individuals drowned after their boat overturned in the Ujani dam backwaters.
