The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has millions of students eagerly awaiting their Board Exam Timetable. Amidst this anticipation, a significant announcement has come from a senior official of the CBSE board. It’s been stated that there will be no divisions or distinctions awarded in the Board Exams for Class 10 and Class 12. Instead, the decision to determine the best five subjects for a student who has taken more than five papers will lie with the respective school or institution.
New Grading System Unveiled
Sanyam Bhardwaj, the exam controller of CBSE, mentioned, “No overall grade, special merit, or cumulative scores will be given. If a candidate has appeared in more than five subjects, the institution or employer considering admission will decide based on their best five subjects.”
Bhardwaj clarified that CBSE doesn’t compute percentage marks, make declarations, or provide information about it. He added, “If percentage marks are necessary for higher education or employment, they can be calculated by the admitting institution or employer.” It’s worth noting that earlier, to maintain healthy competition, CBSE had also ceased releasing the merit list.
Absence of Board Toppers
CBSE has refrained from announcing a list of students who topped the Class 10 and 12 Board Exams for the past few years. The rationale behind this decision was to avoid unhealthy competition among students.
2024 CBSE Board Exam Schedule
Next year’s CBSE Board Exams are scheduled to commence from February 15th. Both Class 10 and Class 12 exams will begin on the same day and continue until April. However, the detailed schedule for the Class 10 and 12 Board Exams hasn’t been released yet. Meanwhile, the practical exams for both classes are set to start from January 1st.
This decision marks a significant shift in the grading system, offering a more holistic approach in evaluating a student’s performance beyond conventional distinctions and divisions.
