Kumarganj (West Bengal): West Bengal’s Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, voiced her concerns on Sunday, alleging that she and her nephew, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, are being targeted by the BJP and no longer feel secure. This comes in response to a statement made by the Leader of Opposition in the assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, who predicted a “big explosion on Monday which will shake the TMC and its top brass.”
“The BJP is targeting both me and Abhishek, and we feel our safety is at risk. However, we are not daunted by the saffron party’s schemes. We call on everyone to remain vigilant against conspiracies aimed at TMC leaders and the people of West Bengal,” she asserted during an election rally in Kumarganj within the Balurghat Lok Sabha constituency, supporting party candidate and state minister Biplab Mitra.
In response to Adhikari’s comments, Banerjee stated, “There is a turncoat who has joined the BJP to shield his family and ill-gotten gains. Let me make it clear, his talk of setting off a ‘chocolate bomb explosion’ is met with disdain from us.” “Our response will be by igniting fireworks. For us, these fireworks expose the discrepancies in the PM Care Fund and the ‘jumla’ of crediting Rs 15 lakh to every citizen’s bank account. He is merely spreading falsehoods,” she emphasized.
Regarding the change in the color of the Doordarshan logo, Banerjee accused the Narendra Modi government of painting independent institutions like Doordarshan in saffron hues, stating that the BJP “appropriating the color” was an insult to the sacrifices made by monks and spiritual leaders of the country over ages.
Banerjee questioned how the Doordarshan logo could suddenly turn saffron during elections, alleging that it was done to align with the BJP’s “religion-based vote bank politics and agenda.” “Why has the DD logo abruptly changed to saffron? Why were the official residences of army personnel painted saffron? Why was the police uniform in Kashi (Varanasi) changed to saffron?” she inquired.
“We strongly oppose this decision to change the color of the DD logo… it is yet another instance of the BJP’s authoritarian rule. If they come back to power, there will be no more elections in the future. There will be a rule of one man, one party, and the religious rights of different communities will be in jeopardy,” she warned.
