In a recent development, the legislature has called for a fresh ballot in 47 polling spots across Manipur, alleging a capture of these stations and manipulation in the elections of two Lok Sabha constituencies in the northeastern region.

There were instances of gunfire, coercion, and the vandalization of EVMs at certain voting locations, along with claims of a takeover of booths in the conflict-ridden Manipur. This region witnessed a turnout exceeding 68 percent in the recent elections for the Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituencies. K Meghachandra, the President of the Manipur branch of Congress, revealed that the party has officially submitted a grievance to the Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur, urging a re-election in 36 polling stations within the Inner Manipur constituency and 11 within the Outer Manipur constituency.

During a press briefing on the night of the incident, K Meghachandra expressed, “Unidentified armed troublemakers have been issuing threats to Congress contender Angomcha Bimol Akoijam and the party’s electoral representatives for several days now.”

He went on to state, “We have formally lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur, urging a re-election in 36 polling stations within Inner Manipur and 11 within Outer Manipur.” The request for a re-election also encompassed three polling spots situated within the Assembly constituency of the Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, in Heingang.
