In an alarming occurrence recounted from Bihar, a jurisprudence scholar met his demise whilst exiting the examination venue subsequent to a legal exam in the metropolis of Patna, as stated by authorities. Law enforcement has apprehended the principal offender alongside his associate implicated in the incident.
Sharat RS, Assistant Superintendent of Police in Patna City, while affirming the occurrence, disclosed that the scholar identified as Harsh Raj, hailing from Hajipur in Bihar, was brutally assaulted by delinquents as he emerged from the BN Law College in the precincts of Sultanganj police station after completing his examination. The cadaver has been dispatched to PMCH for medico-legal examination, the law enforcement officer disclosed, further adding that the matter is under scrutiny. “The adjacent CCTV footage is under examination to identify the perpetrators,” supplemented ASP Patna City.
Informants revealed that immediately after Harsh Raj exited the college following the examination, a group of 8 to 10 troublemakers launched a vicious assault, leaving him severely wounded. He was admitted to PMCH in a critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment, an official recounted. It is alleged that all assailants wore masks, hindering local identification. After perpetrating the act, all offenders absconded from the scene of the crime.
Authorities have detained the principal culprit, Chandan Yadav, along with his accomplice in connection to the incident, stated City SP East Bharat Soni. Yadav was apprehended by law enforcement in the Amhara area, according to Soni. The slaying of the jurisprudence scholar incited widespread protests by students, advocating capital punishment for the perpetrators. A considerable number of students barricaded the thoroughfare near Kargil Chowk at Gandhi Maidan and staged a procession from Patna College to Kargil Chowk, demanding justice for the deceased scholar.
In addition to personnel from multiple police stations, extra law enforcement officers are stationed on-site to forestall any disruptions to public order. Police have established a garrison in the Ashok Rajpath vicinity. Chandan Yadav, the primary suspect in the Harsh Raj homicide case, has been detained. Law enforcement has apprehended two suspects thus far.
Although the motive behind the homicide remains ambiguous, preliminary police inquiries indicate that the deceased, Harsh Raj, engaged in a dispute with individuals several days prior. It is speculated that the killing may have stemmed from this altercation. Nonetheless, law enforcement is probing the matter, and CCTV footage from the vicinity of the incident is under examination.
Sources revealed that the deceased, Harsh Raj, participated in a campaign rally for NDA Lok Sabha candidate Shambhavi Chaudhary in Samastipur on May 18.
A purported video depicting the slaying has surfaced online. The footage captures approximately 7-8 individuals traversing the campus wielding cudgels, their visages concealed with towels. The assailants are observed administering a thrashing to the jurisprudence scholar, who collapses due to the ferocity of the assault.
