Raising queries about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contemplation at Rock Memorial from May 30 to June 1, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal expressed on Wednesday that it’s commendable if he’s journeying to Kanyakumari for “prayashchit” (penance). “The individual who lacks comprehension of ‘vivek’ (discernment), what ‘dhyan’ (introspection) can they engage in?”
“If indeed he’s seeking ‘prayashchit’, then it’s a commendable endeavor, or if he’s seeking inspiration from the writings and orations of Swami Vivekanand, even then it holds merit,” stated Sibal. The prime minister is slated to engage in meditation from the evening of May 30 to the evening of June 1 at Dhyan Mandapam, the locale where Vivekananda, a revered spiritual figure admired by PM Modi, is believed to have experienced a divine revelation about Bharat Mata’, BJP officials elucidated on Tuesday.
Sibal accused the BJP-led central government of refraining from highlighting its accomplishments due to its lack thereof. “What have they accomplished in the past decade? Has the prime minister elucidated in his speeches what transpired during the 10 years? What are their feats,” queried Sibal during a press briefing here.
Sibal also censured PM Modi for his ‘mujra’ reference against opposition figures, suggesting that had there been notable achievements to showcase, such language would be unnecessary. Sibal claimed the BJP “fumbled” in delivering on the promises upon which it ascended to power.
“Hence, they resort to discussions regarding ‘mujra’, ‘mangalsutra’, vote bank politics, vote jihad… they assert that the INDIA bloc will pilfer water taps, funds from financial institutions…” he articulated. Sibal pointed out that prior to assuming power, PM Modi was renowned for his grandiloquent speeches. “He would implore the populace to grant him 60 months after enduring 60 years under the Congress, promising a ‘new India’. What ‘new India’ has materialized following 120 months (10 years)?” he queried.
Endorsing Congress’ Lok Sabha candidate Manish Tewari, who is vying for the Chandigarh parliamentary constituency, Sibal stated, “Chandigarh is my birthplace, and I was educated here. I urge the electorate to elect an individual who comprehends parliamentary proceedings, possesses foresight, comprehends contemporary politics, and is fervently dedicated to serving the populace.”
He underscored that the nation faces myriad challenges that demand attention. In numerous nations, expenditure on education ranges between 9-12 per cent of the GDP, whereas in our nation, it languishes at less than four per cent, the former Union minister asserted. Alleging that the unemployment rate among individuals aged 25 to 30 stands at 46 per cent, and between the ages of 20 and 30, it registers at 29 per cent, he emphasized the importance of addressing these issues. Voting for the Chandigarh parliamentary seat is slated for the seventh and final phase of general elections on June 1.
