In Shivamogga, an incarcerated individual at Shivamogga Central Jail in Karnataka ingested his cellular device out of apprehension that he might undergo detection during a thorough search conducted by the custodial staff. The retrieval of the mobile device ensued through a surgical intervention performed at Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru.
This occurrence, which transpired the previous month, came to the forefront subsequent to the detainee, Parshuram, experiencing acute abdominal discomfort. He was promptly escorted to the correctional facility’s medical practitioner for an evaluation. Following the examination, the medical practitioner referred him to Meggan Hospital in Shivamogga.
During the medical evaluation, when queried about his condition, the detainee articulated a suspicion of harboring a mass in his abdominal cavity. Despite undergoing an x-ray, the precise nature of the obstruction within his gastrointestinal tract remained undisclosed.
On the 3rd of April, the detainee received medical attention from the chief medical officer within the penitentiary, and based on the officer’s counsel, was subsequently transferred to Victoria Hospital on the 6th of April for further medical intervention.
Subsequently, on the 25th of April, Parshuram underwent a surgical procedure wherein a cellular device was extracted from his gastrointestinal tract. Following the surgery, he was placed under observation for recuperation. Sources have indicated that Parshuram is presently in the convalescence phase. The motive and timing behind the ingestion of the cellular device remain undisclosed; however, suspicions have arisen suggesting that the incident may have occurred during one of the routine contraband checks aimed at detecting illicit mobile devices, narcotics, and other prohibited items.
