In the vibrant city of Kolkata, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to unveil an array of development initiatives amounting to a staggering Rs 15,000 crore in West Bengal on the upcoming Saturday. Having graced the state with his presence for a two-day visit, Modi’s itinerary includes a journey to Krishnanagar in Nadia district around 10.30, where he will unveil these transformative projects.
Stringent security measures have been meticulously put in place to safeguard the prime minister’s visit to this district, as informed by officials. The cornerstone of this endeavor involves the unveiling of the Damodar Valley Corporation’s Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station Phase II (2×660 mw) in Purulia district.
Among the milestones to be inaugurated is the Flue Gas Desulfurisation (FGD) system at Mejia Thermal Power Station, an ambitious undertaking developed at a cost of Rs 650 crore. Additionally, the inauguration of the four-laning project spanning the 100-km-long Farakka-Raiganj section of NH-12, a venture costing Rs 1,986 crore, is set to further bolster the state’s infrastructure.
The prime minister will also dedicate four rail projects, collectively valued at more than Rs 940 crore, to the nation. These projects encompass the doubling of the Damodar-Mohishila line, the introduction of a third line between Rampurhat and Murarai, the doubling of the Bazarsau-Azimganj rail line, and the establishment of a new line connecting Azimganj and Murshidabad, as delineated in an official statement.
On the preceding Friday, Modi had initiated the unveiling of development projects exceeding Rs 7,200 crore in Arambagh, located in the Hooghly district. It’s worth noting that during the 2019 elections, the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat was secured by TMC’s Mohua Moitra, an outspoken critic of the BJP-led government at the Centre. Notably, she faced expulsion from the Lok Sabha in December, following the adoption of the Ethics Committee’s report, which found her guilty of accepting gifts and illegal gratification from a businessman with a vested interest.
The Nadia district, where the prime minister is set to visit, also boasts a substantial Matua population. Modi’s West Bengal visit will draw to a close as he heads to Bihar in the afternoon.
