The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) proclaimed on Saturday that circumstances are conducive for the further progression of Southwest Monsoon into additional sectors of central Arabian Sea, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and SouthWest Bay of Bengal within the subsequent two to three days.
The South West Monsoon commenced over Kerala on Thursday, preceding IMD’s initial prognosis by one day. Similarly, on Friday, IMD foresaw favorable conditions for the monsoon’s extension into the southern realms of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the northeastern territories.
While the states/UTs in the North West endure scorching heatwaves, the southern and central regions relish the monsoon’s downpours. “Favorable conditions exist for the further advancement of Southwest Monsoon into additional sectors of the central Arabian Sea, residual sections of the south Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area, and Kerala, certain parts of Karnataka, Additional segments of Tamil Nadu, and the Southwest Bay of Bengal over the next 48 to 72 hours,” stated IMD in its morning briefing on Saturday.
The meteorological bureau also anticipates precipitation in the northeastern territories over the ensuing seven days. “Extensively scattered to widespread light to moderate precipitation accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning, and brisk winds (30-40 kmph) are probable over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, as well as Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim within the next week,” it articulated.
“Isolated instances of intense/exceptionally intense precipitation are highly probable over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim over the next five days,” it appended.
“Under the sway of a trough spanning from northwest Uttar Pradesh to western Bangladesh in the lower tropospheric levels, the meteorological bureau forecasts isolated to scattered light/moderate precipitation with thunderstorm, lightning, and brisk winds (30-40 kmph) over Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh during the ensuing 120 hours and over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada during the period from June 2nd to 5th. Isolated intense precipitation is highly probable over Gangetic West Bengal on June 1st,” it elaborated.
Analogous conditions are projected to endure over Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Karnataka, isolated to scattered light to moderate precipitation over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema over the subsequent week.
It also envisages light rain showers for the mountainous states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Jammu Kashmir over the ensuing five days while akin conditions are liable to persist over the plains of North West India between June 1st and 3rd.
