During the ongoing nomination phase for the fifth iteration of the Lok Sabha elections, a collective of nine contenders, inclusive of the esteemed figures of Shiv Sena’s (UBT), namely Arvind Sawant and Anil Desai, officially lodged their candidacies in Mumbai on the preceding Monday. Arvind Sawant is vying for the electoral seat representing Mumbai South, whereas Anil Desai is endeavoring to secure the position for Mumbai South Central.
In tandem with his nomination submission, Sawant duly furnished comprehensive details regarding his fiscal assets to the Election Commission via an accompanying affidavit. Notably, the affidavit also delineated the assets registered in the name of Sawant’s spouse, Anuya Arvind Sawant.
As per the submitted affidavit, Arvind Sawant presently possesses Rs 1,35,000 in liquid funds, while his spouse holds Rs 60,000. Furthermore, Sawant enumerates 251.070 grams of gold and 3000 grams of silver in his possession, the collective valuation of which amounts to Rs 19 lakhs 48 thousand and 152 rupees, as disclosed in the affidavit.
In contrast, Arvind Sawant’s consort boasts 509.10 grams of gold and 8000 grams of silver, aggregating to a monetary valuation of Rs 41,32,262. Arvind Sawant himself commands a cumulative wealth of Rs 2 crore 13 lakh 91 thousand 322, with an additional 2 crore 26 lakh 65 thousand 869 rupees under his wife’s titular ownership.
Rahul Shewale, another luminary within the Shiv Sena ranks contending for the Mumbai South Central constituency, formalized his candidacy on the same day. Independently, several non-partisan candidates also threw their hats into the electoral ring. Notably, from the Mumbai South district, two autonomous aspirants, Dr. Mayuri Santosh Shinde and Sabiha Bano, lodged their nominations on the aforementioned Monday.
The electorate is slated to cast their votes for the six designated seats in Mumbai on May 20, with the deadline for nominations set for May 3. Geographically, Mumbai is demarcated into two distinct clusters: the urban and suburban constituencies.
While the urban sector encompasses two constituencies, namely Mumbai South and Mumbai South Central, the suburban region comprises four distinct electoral precincts, namely Mumbai North Central, Mumbai North East, Mumbai North West, and Mumbai North. This year, Mumbai city boasts a total voter count of 24.59 lakhs, while the suburban populace accounts for a staggering 74 lakh registered voters.
