In Mumbai, a 19-year-old individual met his demise due to suspected food poisoning, while a dozen others experienced sickness after purportedly indulging in a renowned street delicacy known as Shawarma from a roadside stall in Mankurd, Maharashtra, as per police statements on Wednesday. Authorities have detained two proprietors of the food stall in connection with the incident.
The deceased, identified as Prathamesh Bhokse, was admitted to the hospital exhibiting symptoms of stomach distress and emesis, eventually succumbing to his ailments during medical care the previous day. Following a complaint lodged by Prathamesh’s uncle, Hamid Abbas Syed (age 40), a legal case has been initiated at the Trombay police station against the stall proprietors.
Rajesh Shinde, the senior police inspector at Trombay police station, disclosed that approximately 12 individuals reported instances of food poisoning subsequent to partaking in Shawarma from a roadside stall in Maharashtra Nagar of Mankhurd. The stall proprietors, Anand Kamble and Mohammad Ahmad Reza Shaikh, are slated to appear before the court today, as confirmed by Shinde.
As per the Trombay Police, numerous individuals fell unwell after consuming Shawarma from the stall, with 10-12 of them requiring urgent medical attention at the hospital.
“Prathamesh consumed Shawarma from the stall around 6 pm on May 3 and commenced experiencing abdominal discomfort and emesis the following morning. He was promptly admitted to the nearby medical facility. Despite initial alleviation, Prathamesh’s health deteriorated, necessitating his transfer to KEM Hospital at 5 am on May 5. Tragically, he passed away during the course of treatment on May 7,” stated Shinde.
The condition of the remaining victims is reported as stable. A female named Aishwarya is presently receiving medical care at Centenary Hospital, while another individual is under observation at Shatabdi Hospital,” added Shinde.
